I like to make sculpture, furniture and various objects. Occasionally I fabricate artwork for other artists and sometimes I collaborate with friends. I also design spaces and enjoy teaching, consulting and commissions.

Body Dada Benches 2019, 2024

A group of benches commissioned for boutique fitness studio BODY DADA located in the historic Los Angeles neighborhoods of Highland Park and Silverlake. The playful shapes invite interaction, and are surprisingly light and easy to move despite generous sizing. Cut and joined from solid Suparpine, they feature simple legs with oversized  tenons and wedges made from Walnut.

An archetypal shape stretched into a curve. When combined they create fun lines; a squiggle, a question-mark, almost a circle.
Pine has consistently remained one of my favorite materials. It is honest, ubiquitous, often overlooked and underappreciated. It has so many properties that I love: light yet strong, soft and easy to work, a lovely aroma.
To get the shapes and sizing just right, I carved prototypes out of foam. The first batch was made on a tight budget without any large milling equipment, so the client joined me in the studio and helped with sanding. Lacking a lathe, I found a trick to shape the legs with a router, and used a large Forstner bit to cut the holes. Thanks to documentation of the process, I was able to construct the second batch four years later with refinement, tighter details and less time. Thanks to solid construction and simple design, the benches have held up with constant movement and daily use.
